Behind multiple all-invitational performances, the Hanover College cross country teams both earned the top two finishes at the Hanover College Madison Kiwanis Invitational. The meet was held at L.S Ayres Sports Complex, Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012.
Led by eight all-meet performers, the women’s team tallied 31 points to outdistance runner-up Franklin College. Sophomore Mackenzie Dye (New Castle, Ind.) ran 19:58.00 to lead the Panthers with a third place finish.
Freshmen Rachel Smith (Brownsburg, Ind.) and Kaleigh DeBeck (Cromwell, Ind.) teamed with junior Janelle Lantz (Indianapolis, Ind.) to sweep 5th-7th place. Smith and DeBeck ran 20:27 and 20:37, while Lantz ran a personal best 21:04.
Sophomore Claire Hinshaw (New Castle, Ind.) completed the team scoring, running 21:12 to finish tenth.
Freshman Rachel Effinger (Versailles, Ky.) finished in 21:29 for 12th place, while classmate Nikki Lewis (Mahomet, Ill.) earned 13th with a 21:37 effort. Meghan Fox (Indianapolis, Ind.), yet another freshman, completed the all-meet list finishing 15th overall in a time of 22:28.
The men’s team earned their highest finish in recent years, scoring 36 points to finish second behind Franklin College’s 19 points.
Sophomore Logan Wells (Scottsburg, Ind.) led the Panthers with a fourth place time of 17:28.
Freshman Drew Elston (Carmel, Ind.) continued his strong rookie campaign, finishing sixth overall in a time of 17:34.
Junior Brendan Kelly, followed Elston running 17:45 to finish in seventh. Classmates Matthew and Jason Holcomb (Sellersburg, Ind.) rounded out the Panther scoring, finishing 10th and 11th. Matthew ran 18:01.09, while Jason ran 18:01.10.
Two other Panthers earned all-meet honors. Sophomore Richie Sellers (Noblesville, Ind.) placed 14th in 18:30, while senior Brock Harkness (Indianapolis, Ind.) running his last home meet finished 15th overall in a time of 18:33.
