Sole shot enough to edge Panthers

Hanover College’s men’s soccer team fell to Manchester University, 1-0, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tilt, Saturday, Sept. 29, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.

Hanover’s defense limited Manchester to just five shots and one shot on goal in the outing. However, the one shot on goal proved to be enough as the Spartans’ Andrew Gray converted a shot in the 34th minute for the game-winner.

Gray chipped a shot into the net as the Panthers’ goalie, Trevor Korfhagen (Cincinnati, Ohio), surged to contain a ball in the box.

Hanover, now 4-4-2 overall and 0-1 in the league, earned an 18-5 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 margin in shots on goal.

The Panthers also totaled eight corner kicks to just three for Manchester (3-8; 1-0 HCAC).

Junior forwards Cory Jones (Danville, Ky.) and John Wittich (West Chester, Ohio) attempted five shots apiece to spark Hanover’s attack.
