Hanover College’s women’s golf team is gunning for the school’s second Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship as the league’s 36-hole tournament opens play, Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin, Ind.
The two-day tournament is slated to begin at 11 a.m. each day. The champion will receive the Heartland Conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship, held May 14-17 in Destin, Fla.
Hanover, which captured the 2010 HCAC title, has four golfers among the league’s top 15 scorers. Sophomore Brooke McKay (Carmel, Ind.) leads the conference in scoring average, boasting a 79.9 stroke per round average. Senior Becky Roberts (Avon, Ind./H.S.) is fourth, averaging a round of 83.7.
Junior Sloane Hamilton (Mason, Ohio) is eighth with 87.1 strokes per round and freshman Brittany Mosteller (Cincinnati, Ohio) is 13th with 88.7.
This weekend’s championship marks Hanover’s second opportunity to play at the par-72, 5,854-yard, Legends of Indiana course this season. The Panthers finished second behind host Franklin at the Lady Grizzly Invitational, Sept. 30.
McKay and Hamilton tied for fourth place in the tournament with an 82.
