Sophomore forward Tricia Walsh (Amelia, Ohio) and freshman midfielder Serena Isadore (Cincinnati, Ohio) each had a goal and an assist to power Hanover College’s women’s soccer squad to a 5-1 victory against Bluffton University (Ohio), Saturday, Oct. 13, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
After leading 1-0 at the intermission, Hanover exploded for four goals in the second period to post the program’s 18th consecutive win against Bluffton.
Walsh scored in the 30th minute on a breakaway after taking a feed from senior midfielder Christa Hurak (Lexington, Ky.). The goal was her team-leading seventh of the season.
Sophomore forward Hannah Barker (Carmel, Ind.) started the second-half burst with a goal in the 52nd minute after a looping pass into the box from Isadore.
Isadore then pushed the margin to 3-0 just two minutes later by drilling a direct kick around a wall into the lower right-hand corner of the net from 20 yards out.
Bluffton avoided the shutout with a goal in the 62nd minute. The Beavers’ Maddie Moore, from the midst of a crowd in front of the box, was able to head a cross from Aimee Whitmer into the net to cut the Panthers’ lead to 3-1.
Freshman midfielder Autry Graham (Versailles, Ky.) countered for Hanover in the 75th minute with her first collegiate goal. Walsh laid a ball into the middle of the six-yard box for a Graham chip shot to increase the lead to 4-1.
Sophomore Becca Carss (Harrodsburg, Ky.) capped the Panthers' scoring in the 89th minute. Carss crammed a pass attempt through traffic, then collected the ball on the other side for a breakaway into the net from 12 yards out for her first collegiate goal.
Hanover is now 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Bluffton fell to 3-8-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the HCAC with the setback.
