Hanover College’s women’s soccer team defeated Franklin College, 2-1, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match, Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Franklin, Ind.
Senior midfielder Christa Hurak (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman midfielder Sirena Isadore (Cincinnati, Ohio) each scored to lead Hanover to its 12th victory of the season.
The effort represents the third-highest win total in the history of the program for the Panthers, now 12-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference. The triumph also marks Hanover’s 17th win in a row against Franklin dating to the 1996 campaign.
Isadore scored late in the 12th minute to get Hanover on the scoreboard. Freshmen Emily Spraul (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Autry Graham (Versailles, Ky.) assisted on the tally, which was Isadore’s third of the season.
Hurak, who fired a team-high four shots, bumped the margin to 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 42nd minute. The goal was Hurak’s first of the season and 17th in her career.
Hanover’s defense limited Franklin to just two shots in the first period. The Grizzlies had three shots in the second half and cracked the scoring column in the 64th minute on a goal by Danielle Owens.
The Panthers finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots, including a 10-2 cushion in the first period.
Senior goaltender Bethann Hancock (Lexington, Ky.) had a pair of saves.
With the setback, Franklin fell to 5-7-3 overall and 1-4-3 in the Heartland Conference.
