Prater's 18 powers Classic sweep

A game-high 18 points and seven rebounds by senior forward Courtney Prater (Anderson, Ind.) powered the Hanover College women’s basketball to a weekend sweep, topping Wittenberg University (Ohio) 74-61 in the second game of the Hanover Classic. The contest was held Saturday, Nov. 17, in Collier Arena.

Sophomore guard, Alicia Hopkins (Columbus, Ind.) joined Prater with a strong all-around performance, scoring 12 points, along with five rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Panthers improved to 2-0 on the season.

In the last two games, Prater has totaled 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Wittenberg scored first on a Kim Replogle jumper, but the margin was short-lived, as consecutive buckets by sophomore guard Caitlin Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind.) and Prater pushed Hanover to a 4-2 lead at the 18:24 mark.

Despite several Tiger runs, the Panthers held the lead the remainder of the game.

An Elyse Weddle (Bloomfield, Ind.) layup pushed the Hanover lead to 18-11 at with 11:22 remaining in the first period. Wittenberg answered with an 8-2 run, as the Tigers converted four free throw chances.

Reserve guard Megan Caudilll (Richmond, Ind.) scored six points in the remainder of the half to spark a 12-3 Hanover run. The scoring surge resulted in a 33-22 halftime advantage for the Panthers.

Wittenberg never seriously threatened in the second half, as Prater notched 14 second half points helping stretch the Panther lead to as much as 20 points.

Hopkins found her way to the free throw line with increased frequency after intermission, hitting four-of-six in the second half on her way to nine second half points.

The Hanover press forced 25 turnovers, while collecting 13 steals. Bischoff led the effort with four.

Senior guard, Katie Brewer (Jamestown, Ind.) joined Hopkins in shooting 50% from three-point range, hitting three treys as the team enjoyed a 40.7% (23-59) field goal percentage, while limiting Wittenberg to 36.5% (24-63).

Brewer scored her first points of the season in strong fashion, finishing with 10 points

With the loss, the Tigers record falls to 1-1 on the season.
