The Hanover College Community Arts Series will present the delicate and powerful sounds of the Violin Virtuosi, Friday, January 18, at 7:30 p.m., in Fitzgibbon Recital Hall, Lynn Center for Fine Arts.
A unique collection of violinists, violists and cellists, between the ages of 12 and 18, the performers study at the String Academy at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Their repertoire includes the music of Bach, Brahms, Bartok, Kreisler, Prokofiev, Vivaldi, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Telemann, Dinicu-Heifetz. Performances also feature innovative contemporary compositions written for the ensemble.
Having performed at Hanover in 2009, the ensemble has toured the world, including a Carnegie Hall debut concert and shows in France, Italy, Japan, Spain and Sweden.
In addition, National Public Radio programs “From the Top” and “Prairie Home Companion” have featured the Virtuosi on their nationwide programs. In 2006, Public Television released the Emmy-nominated documentary, “Circling Around – The Violin Virtuosi.”
Tickets for the Virtuosi performance cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for youths. Seats cost $15 the day of the show. Information and online ticket purchasing are available at www.hanover.edu/ARTS or by phoning the Hanover box office at (812) 866-7110.
