Hanover College’s men’s tennis squad earned its second consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory with an 8-1 triumph against Manchester University, Saturday, March 30, at the Zeddies Tennis Center.
Hanover rolled to wins in all six singles matches and two doubles battles to improve to 2-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Senior Steven Gilliam (Fishers, Ind.) held off Manchester’s Kyle Lahman, 6-2, 4-6, 10-2, in a clash at No. 1 singles.
Brian Clark (New Palestine, Ind.), a sophomore, defeated Bobby Swabby, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. His brother, freshman Reid Clark (New Palestine, Ind.), handled the Spartans’ Miro Arguijo, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3.
Senior Devon Sharpe (Indianapolis, Ind.) posted his first singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-3, victory against Phil Truitt at No. 4.
Junior Jordan Myers (Indianapolis, Ind.) defeated Manchester’s Matt Buncich, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5, while freshman Andrew Nice (Salem, Ind.) beat Alex Winger, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6.
In double action, Sharpe and freshman Joshua Ruse (Brownsburg, Ind.) paired for an 8-2 win against the Spartans’ Truitt and Buncich at No. 3.
The Clarks combined for an 8-4 victory against Arguigo and Winger at No. 2.
With the setback, Manchester dipped to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference.
