The Hanover College men’s tennis squad lost a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match against Transylvania University (Ky.), 8-1, Wednesday, April 3, at the Zeddies Tennis Center.
Hanover extended four of the singles and two of the doubles matches, but could only come away with a victory in the No. 3 doubles slot. The setback bumped the Panthers to 2-10 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Senior Devon Sharpe (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Jordan Myers (Indianapolis, Ind.) teamed for the win at No. 3, posting an 8-6 triumph against Transylvania’s Jordan Evans and Jett Glass.
Senior Steven Gilliam (Fishers, Ind.) and freshman Andrew Nice (Salem, Ind.) battled the Pioneers’ Tyler Prewitt and Patrick Richardson at No. 2, falling 9-8 (9-7).
Gilliam’s five-match winning streak was snapped with a 6-7 (3-0), 6-1, 10-8 loss to Transylvania’s Robert Albrecht in the clash at No. 1 singles.
Freshman Reid Clark (New Palestine, Ind.) lost to Richardson, 6-3, 0-6, 10-8, at No. 3, while Myer was edged, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, by Prewitt at No. 4. Sharpe dropped a 7-6 (1-0), 6-4, decision to Glass at No. 5.
With the win, Transylvania improved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the HCAC.
