The Hanover College men’s tennis team raised its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record to 3-2 with an 8-1 win against Anderson University. The squads tangled Saturday, April 6, in Anderson, Ind.
Hanover opened the match with three doubles victories, then nailed down the league triumph with wins in five of the six singles contests.
Senior Steven Gilliam (Fishers, Ind.) and sophomore Brian Clark (New Palestine, Ind.) each improved to 4-1 in conference singles matches with two-set wins.
Gilliam defeated Anderson’s Drew Lovern, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1. Clark, meanwhile, handled Connor Whiteside, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2.
Freshman Andrew Nice (Salem, Ind.), raised his league mark to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-2, victory against the Ravens' Ethan Hillman at No. 6.
Senior Devon Sharpe (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Joshua Ruse (Brownsburg, Ind.) secured the Panthers’ doubles sweep with a 9-8 win against Hillman and Adam Millikan at No. 3.
The duo is 3-0 in HCAC matches this spring,
Hanover is now 3-10 this season. Anderson fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference.
