Heat rises, records fall at Bellarmine

One week after setting multiple school records at their home invitational, the Hanover College men's and women's track & field teams broke three more records while competing at the Bellarmine University (Ky.) Invitational. The Panthers were one of just four NCAA Division III schools in the 23-team invitational held Saturday, April 6, in Louisville, Ky.

Senior sprinter Kris Jenkins (Louisville, Ky.) led the men’s effort, turning in a 22.29 effort in the 200-meter dash. His times tops the previous 22.35 record set by Keston Campbell in 2007. Jenkins also ran 11.24, the fifth best 100-meter dash time in school history.

Two women’s team members joined Jenkins in the record-breaking effort.

Sophomore Briahna Chambers (Bell, Texas) placed fourth in the long jump and was the second-placing collegiate athlete as she bettered her own school record with a 5.38-meter leap.

Chambers also ran the second-fastest times in Hanover history in both the 100-meter dash (12.68 seconds) and 200-meter dash (26.18).

Senior thrower Emily Boyd (Indianapolis, Ind.) bettered her own school record in the hammer throw by more than two meters, turning in a 46.15-meter effort to place sixth overall.

Lexi Vincz (Greenfield, Ind.), a senior hurdler, was the top finisher for the Panthers, placing second overall in the 400-meter hurdles in a season-best 1:05.56.

Senior sprinter Andy Orem (Princeton, Ind.) ran 49.93 seconds in his season-debut in the 400-meter dash, placing 11th overall,.

Freshman distance runner Ben Franke (Seymour, Ind.) stepped down to the 1,500-meter run, turning a personal-best 4:11.35. Franke’s time is the team's best at that distance this season.

Not to be outdone, three female distance runners turned in outstanding times at the same distance.

Sophomore Mackenzie Dye (New Castle, Ind.) also stepped down in distance to run a career-best 4:56.65 in the 1,500. Dye’s time is fifth-best in Hanover history.

Freshman Rachel Smith (Brownsburg, Ind.) and sophomore Claire Hinshaw (New Castle, Ind.) ran 5:06.64 and 5:09.24, respectively. Both times are personal bests.

Senior Rachel Slade (Milford, Ohio) topped her lifetime-best performance at the Hanover Invitational last week, moving into third on the Hanover career list with a 1:00.19 400-meter-dash performance.

Triple jumpers, freshman Holli Leslie (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior Maggie Noger (Lexington, Ky.) both turned in strong performances, placing fifth and eighth, respectively, in the event.

Leslie’s 10.92-meter leap just missed her school record of 10.93-meters set last week. Noger turned in her best jump of the season with a 10.43-meter effort.

Junior javelin thrower Janet Schnurr (Lexington, Ky.) threw a season-best 31.41 meters to place seventh overall.
