Jenkins, Slade lead track at Louisville

Racing in front of a hometown crowd, senior sprinter Kris Jenkins (Louisville, Ky.) ran two personal bests in the 100-meter dash to lead Hanover College's men's and women's track & field team at the Louisville Twilight. The meet was held Friday, May 10, at Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Ky.

Jenkins ran a then personal-best 11.02 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100 meters, moving in second in Hanover history. Later, in the finals, he narrowly missed Gary Cushing’s 1979 record of 10.90, running 10.92 to finish seventh overall.

Jenkins ran 22.30 seconds in the 200-meter dash, second in school history only to his own record of 22.29 set earlier this season.

Senior long sprinter Rachel Slade (Mildford, Ohio) also narrowly missed a school record, running 59.45 seconds in the 400-meter dash, just off Shawna McLetchie’s 2011 record of 59.35.

Freshman Holli Leslie (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished sixth in the triple jump with a 10.94-meter leap, while classmate Nick Jaeger (Terre Haute, Ind.) finished 10th in the high jump, clearing 1.93-meters.

Sophomore Briahna Chambers (Bell, Texas) claimed ninth with a 5.50-meter effort in the long jump. Chambers also ran 12.57 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 26.65 in the 200-meter dash.

Senior hurdler Lexi Vincz (Greenfield, Ind.) completed the Hanover scoring, running 1:02.94 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish fifth overall.

The mark is only topped by her school record of 1:02.69 set last week.
