Hanover College’s men’s soccer team kicked off its 2013 with a 3-2 loss at home to Alma College (Mich.).
Junior midfielder Matt Grau (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman forward Austin Bush (Washington, Ind.) each scored goals for Hanover (0-1).
Junior forward Matt Flora (Scipio, Ind.) had an assist on both goals.
Alma (2-0) built a 3-0 lead just 22 minutes into the contest. The Panthers scratched the scoreboard in the 41st minute when Grau converted a header from just inside the six-yard box off a Flora throw-in.
Hanover, which tallied a 20-10 advantage in shots in the match, trimmed the margin to 3-2 early in the 86th minute. Bush netted his first collegiate goal after a pass from Flora set the ball for a chip shot from point-blank range.
The Panthers’ defense limited Alma to just four shots in the second period - with one on goal.
Junior goalie Trevor Korfhagen (Cincinnati, Ohio) had two saves through 90 minutes in Hanover's net.
