Senior forward John Wittich (West Chester, Ohio) sank a late goal, but the Hanover College men’s soccer was unable to overcome a 2-0 deficit, falling to Covenant College (Ga.)
The Panthers' defense held Covenant scoreless for the first period, but were outshot 6-1 during that time. Hanover junior goalie Trevor Korfhagen (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied three of his game-high seven saves before intermission.
The Panthers' offense appeared to rally in the second half, as junior midfielder Matt Grau (Cincinnati, Ohio) led Hanover with three shots on goal.
In the 57th minute, Alex Lupinek collected a Noah Wiersma pass to put Covenant in the lead, 1-0.
The Panthers held fast for 30 more minutes before Matt Hudnut scored what would prove to be the game-winner.
Hanover roared back with a goal less than 20 seconds later, as Wittich converted an Austin Bush (Washington, Ind.) pass to push the Panthers into the scoring column just before the final whistle.
The loss drops Hanover's record to 1-2 on the season.
