The Hanover College women’s soccer team overcame an early deficit and scored two unanswered goals to defeat Otterbein College 2-1. The non-conference matchup was held Sunday, Sept. 8 at L.S. Ayres Field.
Otterbein struck early, with forward Morgan Hendrickson heading a rebounded corner kick into the goal just eight minutes into the game.
The Cardinals controlled the offensive tempo for most of the half, doubling the number of shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (4-2).
Hanover goalkeeper Morgan Cole (Mason, Ohio) held strong, collecting three of her game high five saves in the first period.
With less than five minutes left before intermission, sophomore midfielder Sirena Isadore (Cincinnati, Ohio) headed an Ashley Turner (Indianapolis, Ind.) corner kick past the Otterbein goalie.
Both teams continued play stingy, physical defense in the second half, allowing few shots on goal.
With less than 20 minutes to play, freshman Chandler Turner (Indianapolis, Ind.), corralled a blocked shot and shot it off the top off the left post into the goal.
The goal, a career-first for Turner, moved the Panthers ahead for good despite several strong pushes from Otterbein in the final minutes.
The win improves the Panther record to 4-0, while Otterbein falls to 1-3.
