Hanover College’s men’s soccer team built an early lead, then held on to defeat Spalding University (Ky.), 2-1, in Louisville, Ky.
Junior defender Drew Servais (Carmel , Ind.) and freshman midfielder Matthew Eldridge (Louisville, Ky.) each scored goals to lead Hanover to its second win of the season.
Servais put the Panthers on the scoreboard in the 13th minute by converting a deflection into the net. The effort marked his fourth career goal and first of the season.
Hanover (2-3) grabbed a 2-0 lead early in the 53rd minute when Eldridge netted his first collegiate goal.
Spalding (4-3) made a late charge. The Eagles had three shots in the final 10 minutes of action, eventually cutting the deficit in half in the 81st minute on a goal from Colin Peters.
The Panthers managed a first-half lead despite getting outshot 7-2 in the period. Spalding finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots.
Junior goalier Trevor Korfhagen (Cincinnati, Ohio) had five saves in the outing, including three in the first half.
