Hanover College’s men’s soccer team rallied from an early two-goal deficit to earn at 2-2 tie at Principia College (Ill.) in Elsah, Ill.
Principia (2-4-2) scored twice in the first seven minutes of play to build the early lead.
Hanover sliced the margin in half in the 67th minute on a penalty kick by senior forward John Wittich (West Chester, Ohio). Just 90 seconds later, sophomore midfielder Alex Hanke (Evansville, Ind.) hit the back of the net with a header off a cross.
The teams would finish regulation and battle through two overtimes deadlocked at 2-2.
The Panthers earned a 17-9 advantage in shots, including seven shots on goal. Junior midfielder Matt Grau (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the effort with five shots and Wittich had three attempts at the net.
Junior goalkeeper Trevor Korfhagen (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted three saves for Hanover (2-4-1), with all three coming in the second period.
