Hanover College’s women’s soccer team grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes of action and rolled to a 9-0 home victory against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
Junior midfielder Hannah Barker (Carmel, Ind.) and freshman forward Chandler Turner (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored two goals apiece to fuel the Panthers’ highest scoring output since a 10-0 win against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Oct. 13, 2000.
Junior forward Tricia Walsh (Amelia, Ohio) had a goal and a career-high three assists, freshman forward Anna Cornacchione (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied a goal and an assist and sophomore forward Rachel Alvis (Cincinnati, Ohio) added a pair of assists to spark Hanover's offense.
Hanover, now 7-1-1 this season, earned a 27-3 advantage in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks.
Junior midfielder Erin Hancock (Amelia, Ohio) put the Panthers on the scoreboard early in the fourth minute with a chip shot into the net off a pass from Alvis.
Freshman forward Elaine Simpson (Lexington, Ky.) lofted a cross into the six-yard box and Cornacchione redirected the ball into the net to give Hanover a two-goal lead in the 15th minute.
Barker scored in the 24th minute and again in the 37th minute to bump the Panthers’ cushion to 4-0 at the intermission.
Hanover scored three times in a six-minute span midway through the second half to put the contest out of reach.
Walsh collected a pass from Cornacchione and cut around the Pomeroys’ goalie to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead early in the 68th minute.
Turner scored in the 71st minute and senior midfielder Rachel Evans (Urbandale, Iowa) netted her third career goal just 60 seconds later to extend the margin to 7-0.
Early in the 74th minute, Turner used her body to nudge a cross from Walsh into the net.
Freshman midfielder Madison Conway (Elizabethtown, Ky.) capped Hanover's scoring with a touch into the back post off a threaded cross into the six-yard box by junior midfielder Ashley Turner (Indianapolis, Ind.).
Saint Mary-of-the Woods evened its record at 3-3 with the loss.
