Senior Danielle Miller (Fairway, Kansas) and freshman Mackenzie Spicer (Indianapolis, Ind.) highlight six members of Hanover College’s women’s tennis team who have been named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s all-league squad.
Miller and Spicer received first-team all-HCAC honors. Sophomores Allison Poston (Attica, Ind.), Kelsey Jones (Hanover, Ind.) and Alexis Taylor (Frankfort, Ind.), along with freshman Mallory Noble (Fishers, Ind.), were honorable mention selections.
Fourth-year head coach Richard Lord was also recognized as the conference's coach of the year.
Miller, a three-time all-Heartland Conference honoree, led the league with a 10-1 overall record at No. 1 singles. Spicer was 8-3 in the No. 2 position in her first collegiate season.
The duo combined for a 10-3 record in the No. 1 doubles slot with a 7-1 mark in league matches.
Poston, who was also named to the HCAC's all-sportsmanship team, led the Heartland Conference with a 13-0 singles record in dual matches, including an 8-0 mark at No. 6 singles. Jones, who also earned all-conference honors last season, was 10-0 overall and 8-0 at No. 5 singles in HCAC matches.
Taylor, an all-league pick as a freshman, was 6-1 at No. 3 singles during the fall. Noble was 5-2 at No. 4 in her first collegiate campaign.
Poston and Noble were 11-3 as doubles partners, primarily in the No. 2 position, with a 7-1 mark in conference matches. Jones and Taylor were 3-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Hanover set a school single-season record with 13 wins (13-3) and captured the Heartland Conference’s regular-season title with an 8-0 mark. The Panthers earned the HCAC’s post-season tournament crown with victories against Anderson University (5-1) and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (5-1).
Hanover will compete in the NCAA III national tournament May 19-24 in Claremont, Calif.
