Record streak ends with loss at Mount St. Joseph

A goal in the second minute of play proved to be enough as the Hanover College men’s soccer team’s school-record six-match winning streak came to an end with a 1-0 loss at the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio).

The setback drops Hanover to 9-6-1 overall. The Panthers slip into second place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 5-1 mark.

Mount St. Joseph grabbed the lead just 1:43 into the contest as the Lions’ Brandon Burns scored off an assist from Zach Kuebler.

Hanover had two shots on goal in the first half and another in the second period, but could not net the equalizer. The Panthers finished with 18 shots in the outing.

Freshman forward Matthew Eldridge (Louisville, Ky.) led Hanover's attack with four shots, while senior forward John Wittich (West Chester, Ohio) fired three shots.

Junior goalie Trevor Korfhagen (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted five saves as the Panthers' defense limited Mount St. Joseph to eight shots.

The Lions improve to 3-13 overall and 2-4 in the HCAC with the triumph.
