Four players reached double figures to lead Hanover College’s women’s basketball team to a 74-64 victory against Anderson University in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference battle in Anderson, Ind.
Hanover led wire-to-wire to record its first Heartland Conference win of the season and improve to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Junior forward Caitlin Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind.) and freshman guard Jessie Davidson (Lexington, Ind.) each scored 12 points to lead the Panthers’ attack. Junior guards Shauna Watson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Megan Caudill (Richmond, Ind.) netted 10 points apiece.
Hanover led 14-10 nine minutes into the contest, then used a 22-4 run through the next eight minutes to burst into a 36-14 lead.
Watson and Bischoff each scored six points during the spurt, while Caudill and sophomore guard Jade Tubb (Louisville, Ky.) each drained three-pointers.
Anderson, meanwhile, went 2-of-12 from the field and turned the ball over four times during the span.
The Panthers eventually led 41-19 at the intermission and held a 45-21 lead fewer than two minutes into the second half.
With Hanover later holding a 67-47 cushion, Anderson made a last-ditched charge in the final six minutes of action.
The Ravens, behind seven points from Shelby Shafer, used a 14-1 run to pull within 68-61 with 1:43 on the clock.
Hanover, however, made 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch to lock up the win.
The Panthers finished the outing 24-of-63 from the floor (38.1%) and were 9-of-24 from long range (37.5%).
Senior forward Elyse Weddle (Bloomfield, Ind.) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to help the squad post a 47-41 advantage on the glass. Bischoff pulled down eight boards.
With the setback, Anderson slipped to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference.
