The Hanover College men’s basketball squad’s perimeter attack totaled 69 points as the Panthers rolled to an 86-66 victory against Anderson University in a Senior Day tilt in Collier Arena.
Junior Jacob Steinhart (Mount Vernon, Ind.) scored a career-high 19 points off the bench to pace four Hanover players in double figures.
Junior guard Kyle James (Indianapolis, Ind.) dropped in 17 points, junior backcourt mate Tim Bass (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied 15 points and seven assists, and sophomore swingman V.J. Billups (Jeffersonville, Ind.) added 11 points and four steals to spark the Panthers, now 15-8 overall and 11-5 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Hanover built a 34-15 lead 13 minutes into the contest. Steinhart scored 11 of his points, and James had 10, as the Panthers led 42-31 at the half.
Anderson whittled the cushion to just 46-41 three minutes into the second period.
Hanover held a 50-43 cushion with 15 minutes to play, then went on a 15-2 run during a three and one-half minute stretch to bolt into a 65-45 lead with 11:47 on the clock.
Steinhart nailed a three-pointer and followed with a three-point play to spark the decisive burst.
Bass scored from inside and added two free throws, while James canned a three-pointer to eventually push the Panthers’ advantage to 76-50 with seven minutes remaining in the game.
Anderson (5-18; 5-11 HCAC) would get no closer than 17 points (81-64) the rest of the way.
Hanover finished the outing 32-of-63 from the field (50.8%) with eight three-pointers.
The Panthers committed just eight turnovers, totaled four blocked shots and posted a 39-24 rebounding advantage with 13 offensive boards.
Junior forward Desmond Marks (Bloomington, Ind.) and freshman center Corey Muchmore (Cincinnati, Ohio) grabbed seven rebounds apiece to lead Hanover on the glass. Senior forward Jacob Rieger (Cold Springs, Ky.) had six boards.
