Senior Robert Bader (Louisville, Ky.) leads the field midway through the Hanover College Invitational. The first round of the 36-hole event was played at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour, Ind.
Hanover sits second in a congested field of eight teams with an opening-round 297. Davenport University (Iowa) is first with 293. Wabash College and the University of Northwestern Ohio share third place with 306. Manchester University and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology are tied for fifth with 308.
Bader fired a two-under-par 70 to lead the 69-athlete field at the turn. Freshman P.J. Greene (Mason, Ohio) is tied for fourth place with an even-par 72 on the 6,724-yard course. Classmate Johnny Vidal (Harrison, Ohio) is 13th after a 76 and junior Patric Geary (Clarksville, Ind.) stands 28th with a 79.
Vidal shares the 13th slot with three of his teammates who are playing as individuals.
Senior Brad Baumann (Floyds Knobs, Ind.), sophomore Jaron Stiers (Middletown, Ind.) and freshman Joey Mingione (Lexington, Ind.) each posted a 76 in the first round.
