Record round puts Hanover first at Defiance

Hanover College's men's golf team is first overall after the opening round of the Defiance College (Ohio) Invitational at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance, Ohio.

Hanover totaled a school 18-hole record round of 295 to lead Transylvania University (300) and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (303) in the nine-team field.

Senior Robert Bader (Louisville, Ky.) is second on the leaderboard after posting  a one-over-par 71 on the 6,130-yard course.

Freshmen P.J. Greene (Mason, Ohio) and Ben Hamilton (Henderson, Ky.) are each positioned in the top five.

Greene sits in fourth place after an opening-round 73. Hamilton, meanwhile, is just one stroke behind (74) in fifth place.

Seniors Brad Baumann (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) and Terry Smith (Peru, Ind.) each earned a spot in the top 10. Baumann and Smith both fired a 75.

Transylvania's Clay Hinton tops the field with an even-par 70.
