Late push falls short in loss at Anderson

Hanover College’s baseball squad fell to Anderson University, 12-7, in the opening contest of a three-game Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series in Anderson, Ind.

Hanover trailed 10-0 after six innings, but made a late charge with seven runs in the final three innings.

The teams combined for 26 hits in the contest, including 11 by the Panthers.

Senior designated hitter D.C. Craig (Carrollton, Ky.) posted three hits, knocked in two runs and also scored a run. Junior leftfielder Nolan Hall (Knightstown, Ind.) had two hits, including a double, and three runs-batted-in.

Senior pitcher Mitch Hunnicutt (Seymour, Ind.) dropped to 3-6 on the season after working four and two-thirds innings on the mound. Hunnicutt scattered 13 hits and nine earned runs with four walks and five strikeouts.

Anderson, now 20-11 overall and 8-11 in the HCAC, grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Ravens used six hits, including four doubles, to plate six runs in the third inning to stretch the margin to 9-0.

Hall smacked a two-run double to help Hanover scored three times in the top of the seventh.

Hall and Craig each had run-scoring singles during the Panthers’ three-run eighth.

Craig knocked in a run in the ninth inning with a two-out single for the final margin.

Hanover dipped to 12-17 overall and 8-11 in the Heartland Conference with the loss.
