The Indiana University String Academy Virtuosi will perform on Hanover College's campus Thursday, Oct. 22. The performance, which is part of Hanover's Guest Artist Series, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Fitzgibbon Recital Hall, Lynn Center for Fine Arts.
Virtuosi is a unique collection of violinists, violists and cellists between the ages of 13 and 18 who study at the String Academy at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. These musicians perform as soloists and as an ensemble, with a repertoire that includes the music of Bach, Brahms, Bartok, Kreisler, Prokofiev, Vivaldi, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Telemann, Dinicu-Heifetz. Performances also feature innovative contemporary compositions written for the ensemble.

The Virtuosi has performed throughout the world, including a Carnegie Hall debut concert, five successful tours of France and an enthusiastically-received tour of Japan. In addition, National Public Radio programs "From the Top" and "Prairie Home Companion" have featured The Virtuosi on their nationwide programs. In 2006, Public Television released the Emmy-nominated documentary, "Circling Around – The Violin Virtuosi," which has aired throughout the U.S.
Many of these performers have won national and international competitions. Their intense musical curriculum includes weekly private lessons, chamber music, theory, master classes and Virtuosi rehearsals. The musicians live in Bloomington and commute from as far away as 250 miles.
