Center for Church Leadership
The Center for Church Leadership at Hanover College seeks to address the spiritual needs of Hanover students and the leadership needs of churches through a series of interconnected and collaborative programs that provide opportunities for growth and development.
The CCL collaborative programs provide opportunities for students, clergy and laity in congregations in and around Indiana. The Center will recruit and engage more students who wish to enter Hanover's pre-ministry program, students who will graduate to serve the Church as ordained or lay leaders. At the same time, it serves the needs of individuals and the Church by strengthening relationships with those who recognize the value of producing Church leaders educated in the liberal arts.
Consilium
Designed to focus on encouraging a small and select group of students to consider a possible "call" to ministry, Consilium offers a focused and intensive form of vocational mentoring. Consilium students will be mentored in a one-on-one setting, encouraged to interact with religious organizations and complete an internship, share common readings, and participate in group discussions and retreats.
Just as pre-law and pre-med are programs that prepare students for various types of careers, so pre-min is not limited to students whose aim is seminary. Christian Ministry is, first and foremost, the act of serving, of attending to the wants and needs of others. This program will serve as preparation for a career of Christian service within or beyond the clergy. Nonetheless, there is a substantial pre-seminary element to meet the needs of those called, or attempting to discern a call to ordination.
Vocational Mentoring Program
Hanover's campus-wide vocational mentoring program matches students with staff and faculty from across disciplines. Through conversations with their mentors, students reflect on how God's calling bears on their lives and their future paths.
Church and Campus Scholarships
In a spirit of gratitude for the vision and sacrifice of devoted Presbyterian leaders, who through the years make Hanover College possible, the Center for Church Leadership has established Church and Campus Scholarships for Presbyterian students.
Pastors and church leaders nominated the students through letters of recommendation. The scholarships are awarded to students who possess traits of character, leadership and academic ability — those who demonstrate the promise to become outstanding Christian leaders, either as a minister or a lay person.
Prospective students eligible for merit and achievement scholarships will be sought as candidates for Church and Campus Scholarships and receive an additional $2,000 to $6,000 in financial assistance per year. The CCL's goal will be to award a minimum of five Church and Campus Scholarships in each of the next three years.
Currently, these scholarship funds come from the Lilly Endowment grant and through the faithful support from congregations and concerned individuals. The CCL hopes to continue offering these scholarships long after the grant expires.
If you have any questions or would like additional information on how to support these students, please contact the Rev. Chris Roseland, director of church relations, by telephone at 1-800-213-2179, ext. 6813, or by email at roseland@hanover.edu.
