Ed Begley, Jr. to visit Hanover College
Ed Begley, Jr., actor and environmental activist, visited Hanover's campus Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007. The actor drew attention for his portrayal of Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the long-running hit television series, "St. Elsewhere," for which he received six Emmy nominations. Since then Begley has moved easily between feature, television and theatre projects. Begley appeared recently in "A Mighty Wind", a follow-up to the American Comedy Award-winning film, "Best In Show," with Christopher Guest, Catherine O'Hara and Parker Posey.
According to his online biography, Begley consistently turned up at Hollywood events on his bicycle and in turn, the Hollywood community has considered him an environmental leader for many years. Begley has served as chairman of the Environmental Media Association and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. He still serves on those boards, as well as the Thoreau Institute, the Earth Communications Office, Tree People and Friends of the Earth, among many others. His work in the environmental community has earned him a number of awards from some of the most prestigious environmental groups in the nation, including the California League of Conservation Voters, the Natural Resources Defense Council, The Coalition for Clean Air, Heal the Bay and the Santa Monica Baykeeper.
Begley co-stars with his wife, Rachelle Carson, in the popular reality television series "Living with Ed" on HGTV where the couple shares his commitment to an environmentally friendly lifestyle that Carson finds challenging. Now in its second season, the couple visits Hollywood homes and friends to complete environmental audits. Recently his program was awarded the Environmental Media Association Award for Best Reality Series.
Begley gave his main talk titled, "Simple Living So Others Can Simply Live," on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007 in the Center for Fine Arts - Fitzgibbon Recital Hall.
