Hawaii Club
Hawaii Club was first started in order to provide a support system for students from Hawaii. Today, it is an organization upheld by Hanover students in order to spread Hawaiian culture and ethnic awareness on campus. Its members come not only from Hawaii, but from other states too. Together, the members of Hawaii Club coordinate campus-wide luaus, hula performances, and social get-togethers centered around the very essence that makes Hawaii such a beautiful place: diversity. All students on campus are encouraged to join.
Major events throughout the year include:
- Parent's Day (November) – Each year, Parent's Day is a campus-wide presentation of everything Hanover has to offer. Parents come to visit their children and to find out what they have been doing since the semester began. Hawaii Club presents a lunch sampling with foods native to Hawaii, as well as hula dancing, lei making, and other Hawaiian crafts. It creates a laid-back, friendly atmosphere similar to that in Hawaii.
- Lei Your Valentine (February) – Hawaii Club offers students an opportunity to send a fresh flower lei to their valentine. Leis are made by Hawaii Club members and given to the recipient on Valentines Day.
- I-Club Banquet (March) – The annual I-Club Banquet is a major event sponsored by I-Club. All students, faculty, and families from the community are invited and Hawaii Club members perform a few hula dances as well as cook a traditional Hawaiian dish.
- May Day (May) – May 1st is known as the distinguished "Lei Day" in Hawaii, used to celebrate the art of making and wearing a lei. The members of Hawaii put on a hula performance around this time and celebrate the simplicity and beauty of the Hawaiian lei.
