2004 Memory Book

College Life in 2004

Enrollment topped 1000 for the first time in 1964-65; 2003-04 enrollment is 1062. There are approximately 200 faculty and staff members. The campus has 630 acres, with 34 major buildings including the Horner Health and Recreation Center, the Ogle Center and the completed Science Center.

The approved College budget for 2003-04 is $24,532,330. If that amount were entirely passed along in tuition, room, and board cost to approximately 1,062 students, each would bear a cost of about $29,217 per year. Fortunately, due to gifts from alumni and friends, the cost per student had been reduced by about $8,700. The charges for each individual student were: tuition, $20,150; fees $450; room, $2,950; and board, $3,250 for a total of $26,800.

Chapel was not required after the late '70's. There was a service held on Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. which students could attend as well as a series of weekly convocations which brought outstanding men and women from all walks of life to the campus.

The Career Center provided career counseling, on-campus interviews, internships and graduate school guidance.

Hanover competed in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on a non-scholarship basis in eight men's and nine women's sports.

Since 1983, televisions have been allowed in rooms and starting in the fall of 1997, one cable outlet is available in each room. Also, each room could have one refrigerator and one stereo in it. However, no sun lamps, air conditioners, ceiling fans, electrical cooking appliances nor heaters could be used. Computers are allowed with two Internet accesses in each room. There was a telephone in each room.

Freshmen who live over 150 miles away and all upperclassmen could have cars on campus. Freshmen allowed cars must store them in the L.S. Ayres parking lot.

Students received a room and exterior key to the doors of their residence unit, and did not have a specific time by which they must be in the building. Each student was assigned a mailbox in the Campus Center Mail Room.

Visitation was permitted by members of the opposite sex in all residence halls. Residents on the floor of each building select their visitation privileges.

Smoking was not allowed inside any public building and some living units prohibit it entirely. Alcohol was allowed to be served at pre-arranged and approved functions sponsored by a recognized campus organization only in designated areas.

2004--Memories of Hanover

When I think back to my time at Hanover College, I am most thankful for the opportunity I had to meet my husband, to make some of my best friends, and to obtain a strong education that really prepared me for my career. I miss dates at the Ohio Theatre.
-Amy Till Abell

Meeting my wife, any given night at the house, Ultimate Frisbee, Johnnie Reb's, Panama City Beach, theme parties, and the list goes on...
-Zach Armstrong `04

Sunrises at the Point, hikes in the woods, dinners at The Red Pepper, Monday nights at Johnnie Reb's
-Allison Rainey English

Sitting up late at night in the stairwells of the ADPi house avoiding readings and papers with the other seniors...great conversations every time.
-Cecelia Charnstrom Haggan

My best memories of Hanover center around two places: the Point and Johnny Reb's. People who were there with me know what I'm talking about ...
-Amanda Wischmeier Konkle

My best memories are the ones I thought weren't such a big deal at the time. Like walking across campus with friends to class or for a meal, playing field hockey on a cool, fall day and even living without any air conditioning in the Phi Mu house.
-Lauren Williams Littlefield

I fondly remember the Eurasia study group I belonged to and the long hours spent making flash cards and answering essay questions. Going to England with Dr. Smith was an amazing experience. Late night runs to Hinkle's were always fun.
-Melissa May

Francis, B-Bart, Blake, Big Dumb Animal, and Sloth
-Thad McCracken

1)Due to growing up in Florida, being able to experience seeing the change in seasons for the first time was memorable especially on the Hanover campus:)2)First softball game I had to pitch in 30 degree weather! 3)Getting to live in Garritt North sophomore year.
-Jenny McGuinness

Great friends and finding my wonderful husband. All in all fabulous memories.
-Carisa Griffin Morrison

Frisbee golf, Hinkle's, The Point, Christian Life, late nights, friends, hiking down to the river, tennis, Spring Term, wiffleball
-Hunter Rackley

I think the thing I treasure the most about Hanover are the relationships I built while I was there. Not only relationships with my peers and sisters but relationships with my professors and the staff. -Ashley Gable Ritchie

Some of my favorite memories are going for long runs and enjoying the beautiful countryside. I have more great memories than I can list at the Phi Mu house! I also loved Spring Term - the fresh air, warm weather, the spring flowers, spending time studying.
-Denise Herrenbruck Seibert

My best memories of Hanover College include but are not limited to; wiffleball during Spring Term, hikes up first and second creeks, late night runs to Hinkles or Taco Bell and last but not least all of the life long relationships established with the Town
