College Life in 1994
Enrollment was 1,044 during the Fall term and 988 during the Winter/Spring term with a faculty and staff of over 150 on a campus of 630 acres. There were 34 buildings on campus including the new maintenance building out on the highway.
Tuition was $7,450, room was $1,340, board was $1,850, and fees were $300 per year. Linen service cost $20 and insurance was $125. There were laboratory fees for certain courses.
Each individual had possession of a key to the side and main doors of his or her living unit at all times. Room keys were issued for the protection of personal property.
The front door of each living unit was locked at 7:00 p.m. All other doors remained locked 24 hours a day.
Guests of the opposite sex could visit students in their rooms Sunday through Thursday noon until midnight and Friday and Saturday noon until 2 a.m. Guests had to be escorted by a resident of that building at all times.
No food or beverage was to be taken out of the Campus Center dining room. Shoes and shirts were required to be worn there at all times.
Students were not to have pets, firearms, intoxicating beverages, or drugs in the room. One refrigerator, one television, and one stereo were allowed per room in all living areas. The volume of stereos had to be kept at a minimum out of consideration for others.
No tape, tacks, screws, or nails were to be put on or in the walls. Waterbeds, loft, and weight-lifting equipment were not allowed. Painting of the walls was prohibited.
Cable television service was provided by the college for the lobby television in each living unit. It could not be secured by individuals. All students were allowed to use solid-state sets in their rooms. No sunlamps, electric blankets (except in rack rooms), microwaves, or portable heaters were allowed.
All sophomores, juniors, and seniors could have cars on campus. Freshmen were not permitted to have cars on campus unless special circumstances warranted an exception. Cars were not to be driven or parked on lawns or walks.
Telephones were in each room.
All student organizations or living unit fund raisers, events, functions, dances, meetings (excluding regular business meetings), on or off campus, had to be scheduled at least two weeks in advance with a Campus Scheduling Form obtained at the Campus Center desk. Cancellations or changes also had to be made two weeks in advance.
Hanover Traditions: No smoking on campus.
