Joyce Brinkman '66
Joyce Brinkman '66, returned to campus earlier this year as Indiana's first official Poet Laureate, a two-year term she began in 2005. Brinkman has written poetry since the age of nine, but has concentrated on writing since retiring from a 30-year career in politics. A former school teacher, she served as Indiana state treasurer from 1994 to 1998. She also served as a Republican state representative for the Indianapolis area from 1985 to 1994.
Brinkman's writing has appeared in newspapers and magazines and is widely published in the Christian market. Her most recent collection of poems, Tiempo Español, contains reflections on the art of writing and of timely living.
