Other Ways to Give

Real Estate
Real estate is often overlooked as a possible gift, but there are many situations in which real property can make a wonderful gift to Hanover and also provide tax benefits for the donor. Vacation homes, second homes, and undeveloped property are just a few examples of the kinds of real estate that could be contributed to Hanover. Real estate can be used to make an outright gift or as a funding asset for a planned gift. Because each gift of real estate involves unique circumstances, please contact:

Tangible Personal Property
(some examples: books, art, antiques, vehicles, jewelry, collections)
In general, a contemplated gift of tangible personal property is reviewed in light of the following criteria to determine its appropriateness as a gift asset to Hanover:

Does the property fulfill the mission of the College?
Are there restrictions on the use, display or sale of the property?
Is the property marketable?
Are there carrying costs for the property?

Due to the unique nature of these types of gifts, please contact:

U.S. Savings Bonds
Series E, EE, H, or HH may be given to Hanover during a donor's life, and the donor may claim a charitable contribution deduction for their fair market value. However, all unrealized income will be taxed on the date of contribution. Though this restriction makes savings bonds generally unattractive for transfer during the life of the donor, such bonds may be transferred on a testamentary basis without recognition of income by the decedent or the charity.
