Hanover vs. Davenport (2), Feb. 22

Davenport completes twinbill sweep, 13-4
Davenport University (Mich.) completed a doubleheader sweep of Hanover College's baseball squad with a 13-4 win in the second contest. The twinbill was played Sunday, Feb. 22, as part of the Russ Matt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla.

After winning the opener 1-0, Davenport erupted for 13 runs and 11 hits in the second game. The Panthers (2-0) scored seven runs in the first two innings and held Hanover scoreless through the final four innings to notch the win.

Junior shortstop Adam Miller (Franklin, Ind.) and sophomore outfielder Jason Crawford (Indianapolis, Ind.) had two hits apiece to lead Hanover's offense, which totaled eight hits in the outing.

Miller had a run-scoring double in the third inning, while Crawford had a pair of singles.

Freshman third baseman Garrett Steinert (Parker, Colo.) knocked in a run with a second-inning double and also scored a run for the Panthers, which left six runners on base.

Senior Kyle Barnett (Sellersburg, Ind.) picked up the loss while lasting just one and one-third innings on the mound for Hanover. Barnett gave up four hits, three walks and seven runs. At the plate, Barnett had a single in four at-bats and scored twice.

Sophomore hurler Jim Peck (Shelbyville, Ind.) and freshman Jeremy Blandford (Borden, Ind.) combined for four and two-innings of relief. The duo allowed six hits and seven runs for the Panthers (0-2).
