Davenport completes three-game sweep
Davenport University (Mich.) completed a three-game sweep of the Hanover College baseball squad with a 10-4 victory against the Panthers, Monday, Feb. 23, in Winter Haven, Fla. The contest was played as part of the RussMatt Invitational.
Hanover (0-3) trailed 5-4 heading into the ninth inning. Davenport (3-0) scored five runs in the stanza to pull away for the triumph.
Freshman catcher Jared Gluff (Kokomo, Ind.) and senior designated hitter Kyle Barnett (Sellersburg, Ind.) combined for six of Hanover's 10 hits in the game.
Gluff was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs-batted-in, a stolen base and one run scored. Barnett was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Junior shortstop Adam Miller (Franklin, Ind.) and junior outfielder Will Pappano (Tell City, Ind.) had two hits apiece for the Panthers, which stranded eight runners on base.
Sophomore pitcher Evan Frick (Indianapolis, Ind.) was pegged with the loss after working six innings for Hanover. Frick (0-1) allowed six hits and three earned runs. He posted three strikeouts, but was hampered by two walks and three wild pitches.
