Skid reaches four with loss to Augustana
Hanover College's baseball squad dropped a 4-1 decision to Augustana College (Ill.), Tuesday, Feb. 24, in Winter Haven, Fla. The contest was held as part of the RussMatt Invitational.
Augustana snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth inning. Hanover put two runners on base in the fifth inning and had two more base runners in the bottom of the ninth but could not score.
The Vikings, which outhit the Panthers, 8-7, scored once in the eighth inning for the final margin.
Augustana pitchers Mike Pagano (7) and Kevin Kulig (3) combined to strike out 10 Hanover batters. Junior outfielder Will Pappano (Tell City, Ind.) had two hits and knocked in the Panthers' run with a single in the second inning.
Sophomore Kyle Lawson (Hope, Ind.) pitched seven innings for Hanover. He surrendered just four hits and allowed three runs with a strikeout and three walks.
Freshman Josh Smith (Georgetown, Ind.) tossed two innings of relief for the Panthers. He gave up four hits and one earned run.
