Augustana sends Hanover to fifth straight loss
Augustana College (Ill.) jumped out to an early 8-1 lead and coasted to an 11-2 victory against Hanover College's baseball team. The contest was played Wednesday, Feb. 25, as part of the RussMatt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla.
Augustana (2-0) led 2-1 after two innings then exploded for six runs in the third inning to bolt into its 8-1 lead. The Vikings added two runs in the sixth inning and one in the eighth.
Augustana totaled 12 hits in the game with seven extra-base hits, including five doubles and a pair of home runs.
Junior pitcher Nik Kahl (New Albany, Ind.) worked six innings for Hanover. Kahl (0-1) allowed 11 hits and 10 runs, including nine earned runs, with four strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Freshmen Ryan Stover (Galveston, Ind.) and Jake Yetter-Berndsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) combined for two innings of one-hit, one-run relief for the Panthers (0-5).
Junior outfielder Will Pappano (Tell City, Ind.) and sophomore second baseman Clay Slaughter (Indianapolis, Ind.) totaled five of Hanover's 10 hits. Pappano was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Slaughter was 2-for-4 with a double and one run-batted-in.
