Hanover vs. Thomas More (Ky.), March 3
Hanover and Thomas More battle to draw
After 10 innings and three and one-half hours, the onset of darkness halted the baseball game between Hanover College and Thomas More College (Ky.). The contest, which ended in a 7-7 tie, was played Tuesday, March 3, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
Thomas More (0-0-1) scratched out two runs in the top of the ninth inning to extend the game. Hanover had rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third inning and led 7-5 going into the ninth inning.
Freshman outfielder Josh Smith (Indianapolis, Ind.) was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs-batted-in and two scored to spark Hanover, which collected 12 hits but left 11 runners on base.
Senior third baseman Kyle Barnett (Sellersburg, Ind.), junior shortstop Adam Miller (Franklin, Ind.) and junior centerfielder Will Pappano (Tell City, Ind.) had two hits apiece for the Panthers. Barnett doubled and scored twice. Miller had a double and scored one run.
Sophomore Evan Frick (Indianapolis, Ind.) was the first of three pitchers slated to work in the game for Hanover (2-5-1). Frick tossed the opening three innings, allowing four earned runs on two hits, three walks and three hit batsmen. He posted three strikeouts.
Junior Jacob Schwartz (Kokomo, Ind.) worked the middle four innings for the Panthers. He scattered four hits with a run, two strikeouts and one base on balls.
Sophomore Kyle Lawson (Hope, Ind.) pitched the final three innings of the contest. Lawson gave up two runs and a pair of hits with three walks and a trio of strikeouts.
