Indianapolis sweeps Kiwanis Invitational; Hanover third
The University of Indianapolis swept the men's and women's races at the 2009 Madison Kiwanis Invitational at Hanover College. The annual event was held Saturday, Sept. 12, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex
Indianapolis captured the team title in both races and had the individual winner in the two events as well. Hanover's women's and men's teams each placed third out of the three squads.
Junior Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky.) led Hanover's women's squad with a ninth-place finish. She covered the five-kilometer course in 21:14. Sophomore Sarah Lucas (Avon, Ind.) was 15th overall for the Panthers in 22:01. Sophomore Rachael Moreland (Lawton, Mich.) finished 19th with a time of 22:39.
Indianapolis totaled 25 points to win the women's meet. The Greyhounds' Stephanie Cave, a freshman, won the race in 19:33.
Franklin College was second with 36 points, while Hanover tallied 70 points.
Freshman Brock Harkness (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Panthers' charge in the men's meet with a ninth-place finish. Harkness toured the six-kilometer course in 21:33. Sophomore Shawn Van Hoose (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) finished 14th overall in 22:10. Sophomore Andrew Kinman (Greenwood, Ind.) was 16th in 22:17.
Indianapolis pushed the first four runners across the finish line and totaled 17 points to earn the team crown. Junior Josh Gornall led the Greyhounds with a first-place effort in 19:56.
Franklin was second with 42 points. Hanover collected 76 points.
