Heartland Conference Championships, Oct. 31

Women place fourth, men sixth at HCAC Championships
Hanover College's men's and women's cross country squads competed in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday, Oct. 31. The meet, hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), was held at Heritage Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Sophomore Sarah Lucas (Avon, Ind.) earned all-conference honors to lead Hanover's women's team to a fourth-place finish in the meet. The Panthers totaled 114 points as a unit.

Lucas placed ninth among 76 runners with a time of 24:44 on the six-kilometer course.

Junior Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky.) and sophomore Rachael Moreland (Lawton, Mich.) each had top-20 finishes to earn honorable mention all-HCAC honors for the Panthers. McLetchie placed 16th in 25:15, while Moreland was 20th overall in 25:30.

Senior Angie Sells (Pekin, Ind.) turned in a 26th-place finish with a time of 26:23. Freshman Caitlyn Bowman (Rising Sun, Ind.) rounded out Hanover's scoring by placing 46th in 27:42.

Manchester College won the women's team championship with 38 points. The Spartans placed four runners in the top 10 spots to earn the crown.

Franklin College junior Heather Waterman was the top individual in the race. Waterman turned in a time of 23:29.

Hanover tallied 183 points to earn a sixth-place finish in the men's eight-kilometer finale.

Sophomore Shawn Van Hoose (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) led the Panthers' effort with a 45th-place finish in a field of 82 athletes. Van Hoose covered the course in 29:37.

Sophomore Andrew Kinman (Greenwood, Ind.) was 53rd in 30:06, while freshman Brock Harkness (Indianapolis, Ind.) placed 58th in 30:26.

Sophomores Alex Kain (Plainfield, Ind.) and Chris Tookey (Washington, Ill.) finished back-to-back for the squad. Kain was 60th in 30:31, while Tookey finished 61st with a time of 30:43.

Manchester completed the HCAC title sweep by winning the men's championship with 21 points. The Spartans had the first four runners to cross the finish line, including senior Andy Williams, who won the race in 26:34.
