Wilmington (Ohio) Fall Classic, Oct. 16
Lucas & Van Hoose lead harriers at Wilmington
Sophomores Sarah Lucas (Avon, Ind.) and Shawn Van Hoose (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) led Hanover College's women's and men's teams at the Wilmington College (Ohio) Fall Classic. The meet was held Friday, Oct. 16, in Wilmington, Ohio.
Lucas placed 36th out of 244 runners to lead Hanover's women's squad to an 11th-place finish out of 25 schools. She posted a time of 20:28.65 on the five-kilometer course for the Panthers, which totaled 291 points as a team.
Sophomore Rachael Moreland (Lawton, Mich.) trailed Lucas by just one second and finished 37th for Hanover in 20:29.46. Junior Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky.) was 72nd overall with a time of 21:09.41, while senior Angie Sells (Pekin, Ind.) placed 75th in 21:11.42. Sophomore Catherine Freeland (Oxford, Miss.) was 95th in 21:32.14 to round out the Panthers' scoring.
John Carroll University (Ohio) won the women's team title with 85 points. Franklin College's Heather Waterman was the top individual with a time of 18:38.81.
Van Hoose placed 91st out of 265 athletes to help Hanover's men's team finish 15th out of 26 schools with 489 points in the event. He turned in a time of 28:20.74 on Wilmington's eight-kilometer course.
Sophomore Andrew Kinman (Greenwood, Ind.) and freshman Brock Harkness (Indianapolis, Ind.) each finished in the top half of the field. Kinman was 107th with a time of 28:42.37, while Harkness finished 109th in 28:43.58.
Sophomore Chris Tookey (Washington, Ill.) posted a time of 29:44.16 to earn a 144th-place finish. Sophomore Alex Kain (Plainfield, Ind.) capped the Panthers' scoring with a 147th-place finish in 29:45.16.
The University of Rio Grande (Ohio) had three of the first four runners to cross the finish line and captured the men's team crown with 89 points. Rio Grandes' Bryce Wilson won the race in 25:19.57.
