Tennis trio earns all-HCAC honors
Three members of Hanover College's men's tennis squad have earned all-league honors from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Juniors Steve Craig (New Albany, Ind.) and Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.), along with sophomore Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.), were each named to the HCAC's first-team squad. Voorhorst also was named to the conference's all-sportsmanship team.

Craig posted a 6-8 record at No. 1 singles for Hanover. He also paired with freshman Kyle Bohnert (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Adam Holtman (Middletown, Ohio) to tally a 7-8 record at No. 1 doubles.

Pollom had an 8-5 record while playing in the Nos. 2-4 slots during the season. He was 2-0 at No. 2 and No. 4. He had a 4-5 mark in matches at No. 3.

Voorhorst led the Panthers with nine wins this season. He was 9-4 overall, including a 4-0 record at No. 3, a 5-1 mark in matches at No. 4, and a 0-3 record at No. 2.

Pollom and Voorhorst teamed for a 7-8 record at Nos. 2-3 doubles. The duo was 6-8 in 14 matches at the No. 2 doubles position. The pair was 1-0 in a match at No. 3.

Hanover capped the 2009 season with a 7-6 overall record. The Panthers tied Franklin College for fourth place in the Heartland Conference with a 4-3 mark.

Season ends with HCAC tourney setback
Hanover College's men's tennis team closed its 2009 campaign with a 6-3 loss to Franklin College in the opening round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The match was played Saturday, May 2, at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind.

Junior Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.) and sophomore Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.) each posted singles win for the Panthers (7-6). Pollom defeated Franklin's Nathanael Kelly, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2. Voorhorst edged the Grizzlies' Jace Redman, 6-2, 2-6, 10-5, in a battle at No. 3.

Junior Steve Craig (New Albany, Ind.) and freshman Kyle Bohnert (Louisville, Ky.) teamed for Hanover's sole doubles triumph. The duo, playing in the No. 1 position, held off Franklin's Redman and Jordan Moran, 8-6.

Panthers notch shutout against MSJ
The Hanover College men's tennis squad shut out the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), 9-0, in a non-conference clash Thursday, April 9, at the Varsity Courts.

Junior Steve Craig (New Albany, Ind.) led the Panthers' six-match sweep in singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Mount St. Joseph's Kyle Smith.

Freshman Matt Strandmark (Madison, Ind.) posted a win in the most tightly-contested battle. Strandmark, playing in the No. 5 slot, defeated the Lions' Shawn Finamore, 6-2, 6-3.

Hanover opened the match with three doubles victories.

Craig partnered with freshman Kyle Bohnert (Louisville, Ky.)  to earn an 8-1 victory against the Mount's Smith and Price Combs at No. 1 doubles.

Hanover, which snapped a two-match losing streak with the victory, improved to 7-4 on the season with the triumph.

Hanover drops first HCAC matches
Hanover College's men's tennis team suffered its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference losses of the season Saturday, April 4, in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology snapped Hanover's five-match winning streak with a 5-0 shutout against the Panthers. Defiance College (Ohio) posted a 5-2 win in Hanover's second match of the day.

Both of the Panthers' wins against Defiance came in doubles play. Junior Steven Craig (New Albany, Ind.) and freshman Kyle Bohnert (Louisville, Ky.) teamed for an 8-6 win against the Yellow Jackets' Tyler Ault and Adam Fausey at No. 1. Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.), a junior, paired with sophomore Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.) for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 against Defiance's Tim Kurtz and Austin Kleman.

Rose-Hulman swept the three doubles matches, then posted two singles wins to roll to its 5-0 triumph against Hanover, now 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the Heartland Conference.

Panthers remain unbeaten in HCAC play
Hanover College's men's tennis team improved to 4-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 9-0 triumph against Manchester College. The HCAC battle was played Saturday, March 21, in North Manchester, Ind.

Freshmen Kyle Bohnert (Louisvlle, Ky.) and Matt Strandmark (Madison, Ind.) each posted singles wins to individually improve to 7-1 overall on the season.

Bohnert defeated Manchester's Kyle Watson, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5. Strandmark, playing in the No. 6 slot, handled the Spartans' Chris Thomas, 6-0, 6-2.

The pair also teamed for an 8-4 win against Watson and Thomas in the clash at No. 3 doubles. Bohnert and Strandmark are 5-2 as doubles partners this season.

With its fourth consecutive victory, Hanover raised its record to 6-2 overall on the season. Manchester, meanwhile, fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Hanover blanks Miami-Hamilton, 9-0
The Hanover College men's tennis squad shut out Miami University-Hamilton (Ohio), 9-0, in a match Thursday, March 19, at the Varsity Courts.

Junior Steve Craig (New Albany, Ind.) and sophomore Adam Holtman (Fairfield, Ohio) sparked the victory by combining for three of Hanover's wins in the match.

Craig posted a 6-0, 6-0, victory against Miami-Hamilton's Matt Hoffman at No. 1 singles. Holtman recorded a 6-1, 6-1, win against Jordan Ishtaywi at No. 2.

Craig and Holtman teamed for an 8-2 victory against the Harriers' Hoffman and Ishtaywi at No. 1 doubles.

The triumph, Hanover's fourth in the row, pushed the Panthers' record to 5-2 overall on the season. The outing was the first of the season for Miami-Hamilton (0-1).

Panthers edge Ravens in HCAC tilt
Hanover College's men's tennis team raised its record to 3-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 5-4 victory against Anderson University, Saturday, March 14, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.

With the squads split at four wins apiece, freshman Kyle Bohnert (Louisville, Ky.) rallied to post a 4-6, 6-4 (11-9) win against Anderson's Jake Banwort in the No. 5 slot and give Hanover its third consecutive victory of the season (4-2).

Bohnert also teamed with freshman Matt Strandmark (Madison, Ind.) for a triumph at No. 3 doubles. The duo defeated the Ravens' Banwort and Addison Witt, 8-3.
