Men's net duo earns all-conference honors
Hanover College tennis players Evan Campbell (New Albany, Ind.) and Steve Craig (New Albany, Ind.) have earned all-conference honors from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Campbell, a senior, played in the No. 2 singles slot for the Panthers. He posted a 6-7 record in singles matches, including a 4-3 mark in Heartland Conference outings. Campbell was 2-6 at No. 1 doubles. He teamed with Craig and freshman Adam Holtman (Fairfield, Ohio) during the season.

Craig, a sophomore, racked up a team-leading seven singles wins during conference matches. He was 8-6 overall at No. 3 singles, including a 7-1 record in HCAC matches. He paired with sophomore Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.) for a 3-6 record at No. 2 doubles. The duo was 0-3 in league matches.

Hanover closed the 2008 season with an 8-5 record. The Panthers, which advanced to the semifinals of the HCAC tournament, finished fourth in the Heartland Conference race during the regular season with a 5-3 mark.


Tennis season ends with loss in semifinals
Hanover College's men's tennis season ended with a 5-0 loss to Transylvania University (Ky.) in the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

Hanover (8-5) fell in three doubles matches and two singles matches to Transylvania, which eventually captured its sixth straight HCAC title.

Junior Evan Campbell (New Albany, Ind.) and freshman Adam Holtman (Fairfield, Ohio) fell to Transylvania's Kyle Clayton and Parker Gregory, 8-1, at No. 1. Sophomore Aaron Williams (New Albany, Ind.), along with partner, freshman Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.), were handled, 8-1, by Lee Gammon and Collin St. Clair at No. 2. Sophomores Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.) and Steven Craig (New Albany, Ind.) dropped an 8-3 decision to the Pioneers' Kyle Herron and Trevor Scott at No. 3.

Transylvania (16-5), winners of 43 consecutive conference matches, advanced to the tournament finals with a pair of singles victories against the Panthers.

Pollom, playing in the No. 1 slot, fell 6-0, 6-1, to Gregory. Holtman dropped a 6-3, 6-0, decision to St. Clair at No. 3.

Panthers advance in Heartland Conference tourney 
The Hanover College men's tennis squad advanced to the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships with a 5-3 victory against Defiance College (Ohio). The match was played Saturday, April 26, at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind.

Hanover earned wins at Nos. 4-6 singles and capped the triumph with two doubles wins.

Sophomore Steven Craig (New Albany, Ind.) coasted to a, 6-1, 6-0, victory against Defiance's Lachmond Bratton at No. 4. Freshman Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.) held off the Yellow Jackets' Joe Craig, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5. Sophomore Aaron Williams (New Albany, Ind.) earned the Panthers' third singles victory with a, 6-4, 6-1, win against Aaron Cottos at No. 6.

Williams and Voorhorst paired for an 8-4 victory against Defiance's Craig and Austin Kleman at No. 2 doubles. Craig and sophomore Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.) handled the Yellow Jackets' Bratton and Steve McQuade, 8-1, at No. 3.

The Panthers (8-4) advance to face top-seeded Transylvania University (Ky.), Sunday, April 27.

Hanover shuts out Miami-Hamilton, 9-0
Hanover College's men's tennis team blanked Miami University-Hamilton (Ohio), 9-0, in a non-conference match, Sunday, April 6, in Hamilton, Ohio.

The Panthers, now 6-2 overall this season, swept all six singles matches and each of the three doubles matches from the Harriers.

Hanover dominated singles play with four 8-0 victories. Junior Evan Campbell (New Albany, Ind.) defeated Miami-Hamilton's Jordan Ishtani, 8-0, at No. 2. Freshman Adam Holtman (Fairfield, Ohio) posted an 8-0 victory against Dan Morris at No. 4. Sophomore Aaron Williams (New Albany, Ind.) shut out the Harriers' Brady Crank, 8-0, at No. 5. Freshman Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.) handled Greg Gibbs, 8-0, at No. 6.

Williams and Voorhorst led the Panthers' doubles' sweep with an 8-0 triumph at No. 3. The duo defeated Miami-Hamilton's Crank and Brian Schmidt.


Netters drop first HCAC match of season
The Hanover College men's tennis team split a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matches Saturday, April 5, in Terre Haute, Ind. The Panthers dropped a 6-3 decision to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the first match, but rebounded to handle Defiance College (Ohio) 5-2 in the second outing.

Sophomores Steven Craig (New Albany, Ind.) and Aaron Williams (New Albany, Ind.) each recorded singles wins in the team's loss to Rose-Hulman.

Craig, playing in the No. 3 slot, defeated the Engineers' David Beccera, 6-2, 6-3. Williams knocked off Rose-Hulman's Seth Hendrickson, 6-2, 6-0, in the battle at No. 5.

Williams paired with freshman Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.) for Hanover's sole doubles victory. The duo defeated Hendrickson and Brent Frizzell, 8-3, at No. 3.

In Hanover's 5-2 victory against Defiance, the Panthers (5-2; 4-1 HCAC) recorded wins in four singles matches and one doubles match.

Craig defeated the Yellow Jackets' Lachmond Bratton, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3. Freshman Adam Holtman (Fairfield, Ohio) held off Defiance's Joe Craig, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4. Williams, in the No. 5 position, handled Aaron Cottos, 6-2, 6-0. Voorhorst coasted to a 6-1, 6-0, victory against the Yellow Jackets' Steve McQuade at No. 6.

Williams and Voorhorst combined for the pair's second doubles victory of the afternoon. The pair blanked McQuade and Cottos, 8-0, at No. 3.


Panthers remain unbeaten in HCAC matches
Hanover College's men's tennis squad remained undefeated in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference after handling Bluffton University (Ohio) and Anderson University, Friday, March 21. The HCAC matches were played at the Indianapolis Racquet Club East.

The Panthers, now 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference, posted 5-0 victories against both Bluffton and Anderson. Each of the matches started with singles play and ended with the first team to reach five victories.

In the triumph against Bluffton, Hanover reeled off wins in the Nos. 2-6 singles battles.

Senior Evan Campbell (New Albany, Ind.) defeated Bluffton's Sean Williams, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2. Sophomore Steven Craig posted a 6-4, 6-1, win against the Beavers' David Juarez at No. 3. Freshman Adam Holtman (Fairfield, Ohio), playing in the No. 4 slot, handled Jon Stout, 6-2, 6-0.

Sophomore Aaron Williams (New Albany, Ind.) knocked off Bluffton's Luke Roeschley, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5. Freshman Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.) defeated the Beavers' Tanner Olterman, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.

Sophomore Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.) led off Hanover's 5-0 victory against Anderson with a 6-4, 6-1, decision against the Ravens' Tim Cantwell.

Craig, Holtman, Williams and Voorhorst each captured singles' wins to secure Hanover's fourth consecutive win of the season.

Craig defeated Anderson's Chris Rowe, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3. Holtman posted a 6-2, 6-2 win against Zach Mccurdy at No. 4. Williams, in the No. 5 position, earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory against the Ravens' Jake Tandy. Voorhorst held off Carl Stagner, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6.


Hanover opens HCAC slate with shutout
The Hanover College men's tennis team kicked off its 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference slate with a 5-0 victory against the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio). The HCAC match was held Thursday, March 13, at the Varsity Courts in the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.

Hanover, now 2-1 overall on the season, did not lose a game while posting wins in five singles matches. The teams did not play any doubles matches.

Sophomore Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.) racked up a 6-0, 6-0, victory against Mount St. Joseph's Price Combs at No. 1. Sophomores Steve Craig (New Albany, Ind.) and Aaron Williams (New Albany, Ind.), along with freshman Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.), each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 3-5 for the Panthers.

In the No. 6 singles clash, the Lions' Ryan Tarvin retired in the second set due to an injury. Hanover freshman Adam Holtman (Fairfield, Ohio) held a 6-0 lead against Tarvin in the match.


Tennis splits season-opening matches in Florida
Hanover College's men's tennis squad opened its 2008 campaign with two matches in Orlando, Fla. The Panthers, under head coach Rich Lord, faced Concordia University (Minn.), Sunday, Feb. 24, and Emory & Henry College (Va.), Monday, Feb. 25.

Hanover dropped a 6-3 decision to Concordia in the season-opener. The Panthers managed two singles victories and scratched out one win in the three doubles battles.

Sophomore Aaron Williams (New Albany, Ind.) and freshman Ben Voorhorst (Warsaw, Ind.) posted singles victories for the Panthers. Williams defeated Concordia's Peter Zender, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6, at No. 5. Voorhorst, in his first collegiate match, handled Arnie Andresen, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6.

Sophomore Sam Pollom (Danville, Ky.) and freshman Adam Holtman (Fairfield, Ohio) earned an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles for Hanover. The duo defeated Zender and Andresen.

Hanover rebounded for a 6-3 triumph against Emory & Henry in the squad's second match. The Panthers notched wins in three singles matches and swept all three doubles matches against the Wasps.

Holtman blanked Emory & Henry's Will Garrison, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3. Williams defeated Brian Butler, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 and Voorhorst posted a 6-0, 6-0, win against the Wasps' Rob Hudson at No. 6.

In doubles action, senior Evan Campbell (New Albany, Ind.) paired with Holtman for an 8-6 victory against Emory & Henry's Kelly McClure and Ben Blevins at No. 1. Pollom teamed with sophomore Steven Craig (New Albany, Ind.) to post an 8-3 win at No. 2 against Garrison and Dan Mausman. Voorhorst and Williams combined for an 8-1 victory against the Wasps' Butler and Hudson at No. 3.
