Field athletes lead charge at Centre Invitational
Hanover College's track & field squads competed at the Centre College (Ky.) Invitational, Saturday, April 4, in Danville, Ky.
Hanover's men's team, with a strong showing by its field athletes, posted a third-place finish out of 10 schools. The Panthers' women's team placed last among 11 squads.
Hanover claimed four of the top six spots in the men's shot put. Junior Zach Seig (Anderson, Ind.) won the event with an effort of 48-feet, 8.25-inches. Junior Joe Vormohr (Portland, Ind.) placed second with a put that covered 43-feet, 2.5-inches. Sophomore Seth Miller (Noblesville, Ind.) was fifth for the Panthers (41-7.75), while freshman Stephen Carter (Bloomington, Ind.) finished sixth (41-5.25).
Seig, Miller and Carter grabbed the second-, third- and fourth-place slots in the men's hammer. Zieg, who set a school record one week ago, tossed the hammer 153-feet, one-inch. Miller covered 142-feet, two-inches. Carter turned in a throw of 141-feet, six-inches.
Vormohr led Hanover's charge in the men's discus with a second-place finish. Zieg, Carter and freshman Matt Seig (Anderson, Ind.) followed in fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Vormohr had an effort of 140-feet, five-inches. Zach Seig heaved the discus 127-feet, 11-inches. Carter lurked closely behind with a 125-foot, three-inch toss. Matt Seig had an effort of 122-feet, four-inches.
Sophomore Scott DeMoss (Martinsville, Ind.) added a fourth-place showing for the Panthers in the javelin. DeMoss' throw covered 149 feet.
Freshman Andrew Kinman (Greenwood, Ind.) led Hanover's track athletes with a second-place finish in the men's 10,000-meters. Kinman covered the distance in 36-minutes, 3.6-seconds.
Sophomore Rachel Logar (Carmel, Ind.) sparked the Panthers' women's squad with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. She posted a time of 16.09 seconds. Logar also finished 11th among 29 athletes in the 200-meter dash in 28.49.
Freshman Sara Lucas (Avon, Ind.), sophomore Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky.) and sophomore Abbie Brownell (Weston, Fla.) each posted eighth-place finishes to earn points for the Panthers.
Lucas placed eighth in the women's 800-meters with a time of 2:28.02. McLetchie covered the 1,500 meters in 5:04.25 to finish eighth. Brownell was eighth overall in the triple jump with a leap of 30-feet, 4.25-inches.
