Panthers solid in Hanover Invitational
The Hanover College men's and women's track & field teams hosted the Hanover College Invitational, Saturday, March 28, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
Hanover totaled 97 points to place third out of 11 schools in the men's meet. The Panthers earned 73 points to finish fifth among 12 women's squads in the invitational.
Freshman Nathan Hickman (Vevay, Ind.) notched Hanover's sole victory in the men's competition. Hickman captured the top spot in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.07 seconds.
Junior Zack Seig (Anderson, Ind.) set a school record in the hammer throw. Seig placed second in the event with an effort of 159-feet, nine-inches. He also finished fourth in the shot put covering a distance of 46-feet, 3.5-inches.
Freshman Brad Newbold (Greenwood, Ind.) earned a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 50.99 seconds.
Junior Joe Vormohr (Portland, Ind.) and sophomore Scott DeMoss (Martinsville, Ind.) each posted third-place finishes in field events for the Panthers.
Vormohr was third among 30 competitors in the discus with an effort of 135-feet, seven-inches. DeMoss placed third out of 25 athletes in the javelin with a throw covering 154-feet, seven-inches.
Hanover's women's squad tallied three first-place finishes in the meet.
Freshman Sara Lucas (Avon, Ind.) won the 800-meters by more than four seconds with a time of 2:25.91
Sophomore Rachel Logar (Carmel, Ind.) finished in the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.25 seconds.
Sophomore Andrea Thomas (Brazil, Ind.) tied for first-place in the pole vault with an effort of eight-feet, 6.25-inches. Thomas shared honors with Bellarmine University (Ky.) junior Jenna Moore.
Sophomore Abbie Brownell (Weston, Fla.) earned a third-place finish in the triple jump. Brownell covered 31-feet, four-inches with her best effort.
Hanover also earned points with solid outings from its 4x400 and 4x100 relay teams.
Lucas, Brownell, sophomore Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Catherine Freeland (Oxford, Miss.) placed second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time a 4:18.9.
Logar, Brownell, Thomas and Freeland finished third in the 4x100-meter relay in 55.67 seconds.
