Panthers compete in Heartland Conference championships
Hanover College's men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships, April 24-25, in Terre Haute, Ind.
Hanover's men's squad placed sixth in an eight-school field. The women's team finished seventh out of nine squads.
Sophomores Andrea Thomas (Brazil, Ind.) and Rachel Logar (Carmel, Ind.), along with freshman Sara Lucas (Avon, Ind.), each posted second-place finishes to spark Hanover's women's team.
Thomas placed second in the pole vault with an effort of nine-feet, 4.25-inches. Freshman Catherine Freeman (Oxford, Miss.) also picked up points in the event by finishing fifth with a vault of seven-feet, 10.50-inches.
Logar was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.00 seconds. She was edged by just 36-100ths of a second by Defiance College's Marla Rolander.
Lucas turned in a second-place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:26.20. Sophomore Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky.) earned points in the event with a sixth-place finish in 2:39.45.
Junior Angie Sells (Pekin, Ind.) posted a third-place finish in the 10,000-meters with a time of 43:21.37.
Hanover's 4x400-meter relay team finished second out of eight groups. Lucas, McLetchie, Freeland and sophomore Abbie Brownell (Weston, Fla.) posted a time of 4:17.46 in the race.
Juniors Corry Stewart (Nashville, Tenn.) and Zach Seig (Anderson, Ind.) each earned points in three events to lead Hanover's men's squad.
Stewart finished third in both the triple jump and long jump. He turned in a leap of 42-feet, 6.75-inches in the triple jump, He covered 20-feet, 9.75-inches in the long jump.
Stewart was sixth in the high jump with an effort of six-feet, one-half-inch.
Seig placed third in the hammer throw with a toss covering 154-feet, one-inch. He was fourth in the shot put with an effort of 47-feet, 0.75-inches. He finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 132-feet, 10-inches.
Freshman Brandon Otter (Vevay, Ind.) placed third in the high jump for the Panthers. Otter leaped six-feet, 4.25-inches.
The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, which hosted the meet, captured the men's team championship with 191 points. Manchester College finished second overall with 138.5 points. Hanover earned 75 points for its sixth-place finish.
Manchester posted 134 points to claim the women's team title. Defiance was second with 132.5 poins and Franklin College finished third with 131 points. Hanover totaled 51 points to lock up the seventh slot.
