Tennis overcomes Defiance to even mark

Hanover College's men's tennis team rallied to defeat Defiance College (Ohio), 5-2, Saturday, April 28, at the Varsity Courts.

Trailing 2-1 after three doubles matches, Hanover rolled to victories in four straight singles battles to notch the squad's eighth win of the season.

Senior Kyle Bohert (Louisville, Ky.) and junior Steven Gilliam (Fishers, Ind.) each had a hand in three wins for the Panthers.

Gilliam swept Defiance's Austin Gray, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Bohnert, meanwhile, held off Cord Speelman, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3.

The duo combined for an 8-4 victory against the Yellow Jackets' Speelman and Graig Bills at No. 2 doubles.

With the triumph, Hanover improves to 8-8 overall and 4-4 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Defiance drops to 7-16 overall and 2-7 in the league.
