Brooks named Mideast Region's top freshman

Hanover College baseball player Matt Brooks (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) has been named the NCAA III Mideast Region rookie of the year by

Brooks, a freshman designated hitter, was also a second-team all-region pick by the website. He was one of just two freshman among the 42 players named to the Mideast Region’s first, second and third teams.

A first-team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection, Brooks ranked second in the HCAC with a .385 batting average. In 36 games, he had 50 hits with 12 doubles, one triple and a home run.

Hanover posted a 22-17 overall record. The Panthers finished sixth in the Heartland Conference with a 12-12 mark. received more than 700 nominations for its post-season awards from sports information directors at NCAA III colleges and universities across the U.S.
