Hanover College baseball player Matt Brooks (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) has been named the NCAA III Mideast Region rookie of the year by D3baseball.com.
Brooks, a freshman designated hitter, was also a second-team all-region pick by the website. He was one of just two freshman among the 42 players named to the Mideast Region’s first, second and third teams.
A first-team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection, Brooks ranked second in the HCAC with a .385 batting average. In 36 games, he had 50 hits with 12 doubles, one triple and a home run.
Hanover posted a 22-17 overall record. The Panthers finished sixth in the Heartland Conference with a 12-12 mark.
D3baseball.com received more than 700 nominations for its post-season awards from sports information directors at NCAA III colleges and universities across the U.S.
The website's staff and contributors, along with SIDs within the eight regions, selected 14 athletes for first, second and third teams. The pollsters also named an outstanding player and pitcher, as well as top rookie and coach of the year, for each of the regions.
