Hanover College’s women’s soccer team used two goals in a 14-second span in the first period to defeat Denison University (Ohio), 2-1. The contest was held Sunday, Sept. 2, in Granville, Ohio.
Sophomore forward Hannah Barker (Carmel, Ind.) scored midway through the 30th minute to get Hanover on the scoreboard. Freshman forward Anne-Spicer Adams (Midway, Ky.) followed just 14 seconds later to nudge the Panthers ahead 2-0.
Barker netted her first goal of the season with a touch from point-blank range off an assist from senior midfielder Christa Hurak (Lexington, Ky.).
Adams converted her first collegiate goal on a breakaway after a Denison turnover.
The Big Red (0-2) cut the margin in half in the 37th minute when Joy Dennis hit the back of the net from 18 yards out.
Both teams attempted 10 shots. Hurak and junior midfielder Paige Byers (Noblesville, Ind.) had two shots apiece for the Panthers, which totaled five shots on goal.
Senior goalie Bethann Hancock (Lexington, Ky.) had three saves in 90 minutes.
