Hanover College’s women’s tennis team opened its 2012 dual-match season with a 5-4 victory against Manchester University. The Panthers’ Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener was held Saturday, Sept. 8, in North Manchester, Ind.
Hanover captured wins in four of the six singles matches, but junior Amanda Learned (Noblesville, Ind.) and sophomore Kalynne Miller (Greenwood, Ind.) combined for an 8-3 win against Manchester’s Alyssa Dibley and Megan Buckner at No. 3 doubles to lock up the Panthers’ team victory.
Junior Danielle Miller (Fairway, Kansas) and senior Kim Fong (Nashville, Ind.) led Hanover’s singles’ effort.
Miller posted a 6-2, 6-0, win against the Spartans’ Kara Gilley at No. 1. Fong earned a 6-1, 6-4, win against Brandy Leeper at No. 2.
Sophomore Kelsey Jones (Hanover, Ind.) swept Manchester’s Abby Berry, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5. Freshman Allison Poston (Attica, Ind.), the HCAC’s reining player of the week, tallied a 6-3, 6-4, victory against Amanda Keating at No. 6.
