The Hanover College volleyball squad captured victories in three of four matches in the DePauw University Invitational. The tournament was played Sept. 14-15 in Greencastle, Ind.
Hanover, now 7-7 this season, posted wins against Kalamazoo College (Mich.), Olivet College (Mich.) and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Panthers' sole setback in the event was against host DePauw.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Quebe (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior setter Kelsey Wagner (Taylor Mill, Ky.) were each named to the all-invitational squad.
Hanover opened with a 25-14, 25-23, 25-22 victory against Kalamazoo.
Senior outside hitter Ashleigh Burakiewicz (Greenwood, Ind.) led the Panthers with 11 kills and 12 digs. Wagner and freshman Alli Deaton (Lexington, Ky.) combined for 33 assists. Freshman return specialist Maddie Hartman (Madison, Ind.) tallied a season-high five aces, while junior back-row mate Kylie Justus (Crawfordsville, Ind.) had 12 digs.
DePauw swept Hanover, 25-10, 25-21, 25-15, to close the opening night of action. The win was the eighth in a row for the Tigers.
Quebe had eight kills and Justus totaled 24 digs to lead the Panthers.
Hanover tipped off the second day of competition with a 25-13, 25-19, 25-19 win against Olivet.
Sophomore outside hitter Jenny Merritt (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Panthers with 11 kills, while Quebe added 10. Justus tallied 19 digs and Burakiewicz had 13.
In a tightly-contested clash between league rivals, the Panthers outlasted Rose-Hulman, 25-27, 25-22, 26-24, 26-24, to close the tournament.
Burakiewicz keyed the effort with 10 kills and 16 digs. Justus racked up 33 digs and Quebe posted a team-high 14 kills.
